Shimadajima lies in Naruto’s inland sea a few minutes from the Ōnaruto Bridge, but it is a different world: lotus fields, an old shrine festival where the portable shrine is carried into the sea, and almost no visitors. The expressway crosses it, so you can reach it by car — or take the four-minute ferry from Dōnoura.
